Fred Irvin Bowen, Sr

Fred Irvin Bowen, Sr., 83, of Metter died Sunday, October 27, 2013, at the Candler County Hospital. A Candler County native and lifelong resident, he was the son of Fred Henry and Fannie Lou Wilkins Bowen. Irvin was a 1947 graduate of Metter High School and a Navy veteran. He was a retired farmer. A deacon and the oldest member of the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church, he had served as clerk and treasurer. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Ray H. Bowen.

Survivors are his wife of 61 years, June Braddy Bowen; a daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and John Jones, Jr.; two sons, Robert Bowen and Fred I. Bowen, Jr.; a brother, Elliott Bowen all of Metter; grandchildren, John Edwin Jones, III, "Tripp", Bowen Reid Jones, Brooke Nicole Bowen, Jerod and Jacob Bowen Karpenski; a great granddaughter, Zoey Storms; a sister-in-law, Peggy Sowell of Milledgeville and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 3:00 PM, at the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Lavon Anderson and Elder Mike Newman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening, 5:30-8:00, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Larry Bowen, Mark Bowen, Kevin Gallardo, Cameron Smith, Bowen Jones, Ken Turner and Tripp Jones.
