Frank Hendrix, 89, died Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. Born in Candler County, the son of William H. and Lula Bird Hendrix, he was a veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre. Mr. Hendrix was a farmer who loved living the farm life. He also was former manager of the Triple A Purina Company and owner and operator of the Amoco Service Station in Metter. He retired from the Candler County Road Department. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, John and Ben H. Hendrix; sisters, Sis Hendrix, Eva Mae Collins and Eula Mae Lee; and a son-in-law, Jimmy Mikell.
Survivors are his wife of 74 years, Mary Lou Collins, Hendrix of Metter; three sons and daughters-in-law, G.W. and Josephine Hendrix of Metter, Franklin and Janice Hendrix of Statesboro, Robert and Doris Hendrix of Metter; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patsy Mikell and Jackie and Jimmy Humphery all of Metter; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm, Monday, at the Metter Church of God with Rev. Varney Aspinwall and Ed Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Primitive Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Sunday, 6-8 pm, at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Integra Rehab Department of Oxley Park and the Adult Sunday School Class of the Metter Church of God.
