Frances Jones C. Lanier, 87, of Metter passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation in Metter. She was born in Auburntown, Tennessee, the second of seven children, to William Henry and Elvira King Jones. Frances spent almost a decade on the road traveling with her first husband and country stars, such as Johnny and June Carter Cash, the Carter family and others on the Grand Ole Opry circuit. She later moved to Florida where she opened a restaurant and met her present husband, J.R. They have resided in Metter for the past 30 years.
Frances was an active member of the Metter First Baptist Church and the Naomi-Esther Sunday School Class. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, quilting, singing and playing the piano at Azalea Nursing facility and Concerted Services. She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Rich, Van and Joseph Jones; a sister, Nannie Street; step-father, Claude Clayborn; and her first husband, Lew Childre.
Survivors are her husband of 49 years, J.R. Lanier of Metter; two step-daughters, Jane (Mo) Up De Graff of North Carolina and Rose (Paul) Bryan of Florida; two step-sons, Jim (Barbara) Lanier and Keith (Beth) Lanier both of Savannah; a brother, King Jones of Idaho; a sister, Mary Kelly of Tennessee; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 10:30am, at the Metter First Baptist Church with Dr. William Perry officiating. Burial will be in the Rosemary Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 6-8pm, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Chris Davenport, Terry Davenport, Ricky Jones, Landon Lanier, Spencer Lanier and Josh McCook.
