Elliott Raymond Bowen

Elliott R. Bowen, 90, of Metter died Friday, August 28, 2015, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. The son of Fred Henry and Fannie Lou Wilkens Bowen, he was a lifelong resident of Metter and a Metter High School graduate. Mr. Bowen was a Navy veteran serving in World War II and was a member of the Metter Primitive Baptist Church. He retired after 25 years with Life of Georgia Insurance Company receiving many honors. After retirement, Elliott spent 30 years as a cattle farmer and at age 85 he was still able to tag calves. For the past five years, he called Grace Gardens his home that he shared with dear friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of 55 years, Louise Edenfield Bowen and two brothers, Irvin and Ray Bowen.

Survivors are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Charlotte Bowen and Ronnie Bowen all of Metter; a sister-in-law, June Bowen of Metter; four grandchildren, Mark (Christy) Bowen, Christy (Cameron) B. Smith, Nyssa Bowen and Kayla Bowen; and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 am, at the Metter Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Mike Newman officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
