Edward "Eddie" Darwin Collins, 67, of Aline died Thursday, January 01, 2015, at the Candler County Hospital. Born in Atlanta, the son of Alvin Austin and Maybelle Brown Collins, he was a lifelong resident of Aline. Eddie was a Metter High School graduate and was employed at Metter Manufacturing Company and Pride Manufacturing for many years. In his early years, he worked for the City of Metter and was a volunteer fireman. In 2001, he and his wife, Delores, helped to organize the Aline Christmas parade. Eddie was a Deacon and member of the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Delores Durden Collins and his parents.
Survivors are two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, O.D. and Jennifer Durden of Friendswood, Texas, Coy "Cheese" and Brenda Gail Monroe Durden of Aline; three nephews, Dane, Dustin and Cory Durden; great niece, Emma Belle Durden; step-nephew and his wife, Timmy and Jamie Monroe; step great niece and nephew, Abbigail and Evan Monroe.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 2:00 pm at the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Mike Newman and Elder Terry Lynn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be Sunday, 5-7 pm, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Tietgen Edenfield, Ben Kennedy, David Mosley, Sonny Youmans, Steven Cody and David Akridge. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons, Ray Kirkland, Louis Hubbard and Ralph Williford.
