Earl Jackson "Jack" Meadows, 81, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at the Baptist Village Retirement Community, Waycross Georgia, surrounded by loving family and friends. The son of the late Mark Wood Meadows and Ora Belle Mayo Meadows, he was born in Ohoopee, Toombs County and spent his youth in several towns throughout south central Georgia. He enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 17 and served his country at numerous locations around the globe, including a year in combat in Viet Nam. After 22 years of military service, Jack continued his federal service as an air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration where he served another 16 years. A lifelong avid hunter and fisherman, Jack spent his retirement years in the woods of south central Georgia and on the lakes and rivers of South Carolina.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he left a legacy of his love of God, country, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mary (Weigle) Meadows; a daughter, Melba Anita Meadows; a son, Mitchell Jackson Meadows; three sisters, Helen Meadows Cowart, Melba Earline Meadows and Mary Wood Meadows Johnson; and two infant siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah "Bo" Wade Meadows of Alma; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kathryn Meadows of Enterprise, Alabama; son, Michael Meadows of Evans, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Vicky Meadows of Bethany, Oklahoma; and daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jeff Baxter of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; two brothers, Harold Meadows of Albany and Mark (Gene) Meadows of Charleston, South Carolina; nine grandchildren, Melissa Meadows, Amanda Mitchell, David Meadows, Timothy Meadows, Andrew Meadows, Christopher Meadows, Brian Meadows, Ryan Meadows, and Dillon Meadows; six great-grandchildren, Owen and Liam Mitchell, Jackson and Hutton Grizzard, and Mackenzie and Hailey Meadows.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, 223 SW Broad St., Metter. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until the funeral hour. Burial will be at the Lake Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be grandchildren and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be his dear friends from Santee Baptist Church and Mill Creek residents.
