Dr. Galen C. Huffman, 85, of Metter passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. He was born in Indiana to Carl D. and Ethel C. Huffman. He graduated from Ball State and Indiana Universities and received the Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. He interned at Indianapolis General Hospital and completed a Neuropsychiatry residency at Ohio State University. Dr. Huffman served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps stationed in Germany.

He enjoyed his medical practice in Indiana, Virginia and Georgia. He retired as medical director and former superintendent of Georgia Regional Hospital in Savannah prior to moving to Metter. Dr. Huffman served as Chairman of the Board of Pineland Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and served on the Candler County Library Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia Anne Huffman; a brother and two sisters.

He enjoyed hobbies of gardening, reading and caring for his numerous pets.

Survivors are lifetime friends, Harry and Sue Warren of Pulaski and June DiPolito of Statesboro; devoted sitters, Marsha and Tiffany Lee of Metter; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Trant of Illinois; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services and interment in the family mausoleum will be held Friday, 10:30 am, at Lake Cemetery with Rev. Steve Darby officiating. Remembrances may be made to the City of Metter Animal Shelter, POB 74, Metter, GA 30439. Guest book: www.kennedyfuneralhomes.com.
