Dopson L Deal

Dopson Leon Deal, of Metter, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.

Dopson was born on September 8, 1941, to Grady Deal and Lola Ward Deal. Dopson was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Metter High School, class of 1960. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force before spending over 30 years as a rural mail carrier. Dopson grew up working on the farm with his father, where his love for the outdoors began. He enjoyed fishing in his pond, at the river, and loved spending his days at the coast. A true jack-of-all-trades, he never turned down a challenge and was always ready to lend a hand. Dopson was one of the most selfless and generous men you’d ever meet. He was a devoted dad, Pops and friend.

Dopson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Deal; his parents, Grady and Lola Deal; and his stepson, Tucker Dixon.

Surviving are his children, Jeff (Brenda) Deal of Metter and Jennifer Reeves of Callahan, FL; his stepson, Bryan (Kathy) Dixon of Garfield; his grandchildren, Kristen (Joe) Soboleski, Hagan (Kayla) Reeves, Noah (Amber) Deal, Rachel Deal, Jordyn Reeves and Landon Reeves; his step-grandchildren, Tiffany Price and Hillary Fulmer; his great-grandchildren, Brooks Soboleski, Knox Deal and Sloane Soboleski; his long-time companion, Judy Todd; and several cousins.

The family will receive family and friends at Kennedy Funeral Home in Metter on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 2pm at Kennedy Funeral Home Hooks Chapel.

Interment to follow at Lake Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Hagan Reeves, Noah Deal, Landon Reeves, Bryan Dixon, Larry Purcell and David Coursey.
