Charles A. Witter, Jr., 84, of Metter, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Jack Vedder.
A Connecticut native Charles, "Chuck", and his wife Jane moved to Georgia in 1999 from Florida. In his early years, Charles worked as a tugboat captain in Port Arthur, Texas where he was born. In the 1970's, he owned his own home improvement and construction company, "WitCo". Later he worked as an apple cider maker for Lyman Orchard Farms in Connecticut. Since his retirement and moving to Georgia, Chuck enjoyed woodworking and took pride in his yard and lawn care. He loved his children and grandchildren and was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Metter. In addition to his parents, Charles Albert and Frances Roach Witter, Sr., Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Jane A. Gavette Witter; a son, Ron Case, Sr.; a daughter, Sheila Salter; a brother, Merle Witter; a granddaughter, Jessica Salter and a brother-in-law, George Trendell.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Charles A. and Tisha Salter, III of Evadale, TX, Charles Raymond and Cindy Witter of Cobalt, CT, Coadie L. and Gabrielle E. Witter both of Metter; daughters and sons-in-law, Janie Lynn and John VanWoerden of Middlefield, CT, Cindi Lee and Mike Fraser of Killingworth, CT, Charleene Frances and Eric Zimmerman of Durham, CT, Martha Lauri and Jack Vedder of Metter, Kimberly Mae and John Vedder of Metter; a sister, Martha W. Trendell of Huntsville, AL; 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Like his wife, Charles wished to be cremated.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
