Charles Edward Slater, Sr

Charles Edward Slater, Sr., age 82, of Viera, Florida, died Monday the 27th of May (Memorial Day) at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, FL. He was born in Cobbtown to the late Troy Delmas and Essie Mae Futch Slater.

Charles retired as a Naval Commander after 30 years of service. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War where he did multiple tours in the Gulf of Tonkin. Following his military career, he returned to college at Florida State University in Tallahassee where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business proceeded by a Law Degree.

Charles (Chuck) is survived by his wife; Ann Slater of Viera, FL; three children; Lynn Atchinson of West Palm Beach, FL, Jim Slater of Orlando, FL and Nancy Nygaard of Prescott, WI; two brothers, Alton and Glen Slater both of Cobbtown; one sister, Annette Branch of Statesboro; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Charles is predeceased by his first wife of 30 years, Ruby Wilson Slater; a son, Charles Edward Slater, Jr.; a brother, Olin Slater and a sister, Helen S. Rogers.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 2:00 PM, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with burial in the Sunlight Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Thursday, at the funeral home. Military Honors will be observed. Please sign guest book, www.kennedyfuneralhomechapels.com.
