Charles Edward Locke, 92, of Metter died Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. Born In Gouvenour, NY, he is a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946 and was a retired machinist with Nabisco in Atlanta. Mr. Locke moved to Metter in 1985 from Smyrna. He was an avid woodworker who loved to build furniture, lamps, bowls and checkers. Being a machinist, he was able to fix anything. He attended Evergreen Baptist Church and the Lake Primitive Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, Harold and Myrtle Dichaut Locke; his wife, Amy Thrift Locke; a brother, Harold "Bucky" Locke, Jr. and a sister, Bethany Irwin.
Special thanks to Gentilly Gardens Assisted Living and East Georgia Cancer Center for the care given to Mr. Locke during his courageous battle with leukemia.
Survivors are a daughter, Suzanne (Ralph) Moseley of Statesboro; a son, Charles Ricky (Priscilla) Locke of Glenrose, TX; three grandchildren, Patrick (Jennifer) Locke, Micah (Carola) Locke and Amanda Locke; nine great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Greene (Sybil) Thrift; special friends, J.D. and Nora Henry.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2:00 pm, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Elder Randy Waters officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 6-8 pm, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Patrick Locke, Micah Locke, Steve Thrift, Greene Thrift, Eddie Kemp and Mike Jones.
