Charles Franklin Akins

Charles Franklin Akins, 71, of Metter died Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. A Metter native, he was the son of Leo and Mary Frances Pierson Akins. He had lived most of his life in Candler County and had served in the Army National Guard. He had worked for Donaldson Surveyors and loved to fish, garden and ride his four-wheeler. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, J.L. "Jake" Akins.

Survivors are three sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Frank Odom of North Augusta, SC, Marguerite Dickerson of Byron and Shirley and David Leach of Elmira, NY; several nieces nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11:00 AM, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating. Burial will be in the Olliff Family Cemetery in the Rosemary Community. Visitation will be Friday, 6-8 PM, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Eric Dickerson, Wally Odom, Caleb Odom, David Hardee, Brian McGowan and Matt McGowan.
