C. Maurice Whiddon, M.D., 80, of Metter and husband of Nancy Holloway Whiddon, died Monday evening, November 9, 2015 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. Born in Waycross, Georgia on June 11, 1935, he was the son of the late Claude and Eunice Whiddon. Dr. Whiddon graduated from Valdasta High School in 1953 and joined the United States Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was honorably discharged from service at the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1958.

Dr. Whiddon graduated from Valdosta State College in 1961 and graduated from the Medical College of Georgia having finished in the top twelve of his graduating class. He completed his residence in surgery at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah and he then joined the Wade, Whiddon, and Quattlebaum surgical practice. Dr. Whiddon was the chief of staff of Memorial Medical Center, having served in that position in 1975. He was a member of the American Society of General Surgeons, American Medical Association, and the Georgia Medical Association. He published an article in the Annals of Surgery, Volume 177, 1973 on stroke associated with elongation and kinking of the carotid artery and numerous other articles in the Annals of Surgery. He assisted in the first kidney transplant performed at the Medical College of Georgia.

Among his many hobbies, from 1978 until 1980 he and his son were the Georgia state champions, United States champions, and World champions of the Father Son Two Man Team Skeet Competitions.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Holloway Whiddon; his children; Scott Maurice Whiddon, Breck Hansel Whiddon (Anne Marie), Lucy Whiddon Fonseca (C. Clinton, Jr.) and Sarah Lynn Whiddon, Jill Smith (Derek), Tanya Murphy (Mike) and Sam English (Jessica); and sixteen grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, from 4 until 6 o'clock on Sunday, November 15, 2015 followed by a memorial service at 6 o'clock in the chapel of the funeral home.
