Bobbie Lanier Smith, 93, died Friday, March 14, 2014, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. Born in Liberty County, the daughter of Robert Allen and Cora Lee Williams Lanier, she has lived most of her life in Candler County. For 17 years, she was owner and operator of A&S Restaurant in Metter. Her ministry in life was doing for others while she was able, never meeting a stranger. Bobbie was a wonderful mother who loved cooking and fishing. She was a member of the Metter Primitive Baptist Church and the Marian Agan Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Franklin “Frank” Smith.
Survivors are a daughter, Emmie Lee Smith of Metter; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Sue Smith of Metter and John Allen Smith of Statesboro; a granddaughter, Caitlin Morgan Smith of Statesboro; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, 3:00 pm, at the Metter Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Mike Newman and Elder Steve Flowers officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, 5-8 pm, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Jessie Ray Collins, Rick Lee, Terry Manuel, Glen Thrift, Danny Lee, and George “Bubba” Bird. Honorary pallbearers will be Harmon Woods, Jalvis Motes, Bobbie Hunter, Martha Bird, Ladies of the Mary Agan Circle and Deacons of the Metter Primitive Baptist Church.
