Betty Strange Durden, 82, of Cobbtown died Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Cedar Plantation in Metter. She was born in Candler County, the daughter of Louis and Hattie Collins Strange. Betty was a 1948 graduate of Metter High School and later, a graduate of Georgia Teachers College. Teaching 5th and 6th grade math, she began her 35 years of teaching at Hillview and retired in the Metter school system. Betty attended the Sunlight Primitive Baptist Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lamar Eason Durden; a son, Timothy Lux Durden; a sister, Christine S. Holland and three brothers, Herman, L.V. and Wendell Strange.
Survivors are many nieces, nephews, close friends and two sisters-in-law, Mary Joyce Hendrix and Katherine Durden.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 pm, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Elder Richard Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Sunlight Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be nephews, Louis Holland, Charles Holland, Allen Strange, Hudak Hendrix, Doy Ott Hendrix and Danny Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Brown, Dale Fordham, Danny Olliff, Billy Phillips, Kyle Sapp and Ronnie Funderburk. Remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice.
