Augustus "Gus" Hardiman Watson, Jr., 89, of Metter died Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. A native of Twin City, he formerly owned and operated Durden Department Store in Metter for 27 years. He and his late wife, Carolyn, who passed away in August, went dancing every week-end at Johnny Harris Restaurant in Savannah for many years. Keeping his yards manicured was his favorite pastime. After retirement, Gus worked part time at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel. He was a member of the Metter United Methodist Church.
Survivors are a brother, Buford Watson of Dallas, TX and many loving Watson and Canady nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 3:00 PM, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Elder Tommy Rountree and Rev. Whit Byram officiating. Burial will be in the Old Canoochee Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Clevie Goodman, Gordon Lowe, Richard Jones, Lee Canady, Jimmy Taylor and Dusty Lowe. Honorary pallbearers will be James and Martha Jones, Joe Hulsey and Don Canady.
