Mary Ann McNair McGowan, 82, of Metter died Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Candler County Hospital. The Candler County native and lifelong resident was the daughter of Louis Ray and Mary Euchlease Donaldson McNair. Ann was a 1947 Metter High School graduate and attended GSCW College in Milledgeville. Family was the most important part of her life. She was a great cook who loved helping neighbors, friends and community. She attended Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church. Ann was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Janet Lewis.
Survivors are her husband of 64 years, George W. McGowan of Metter; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Lori McGowan of Metter; two daughters and sons-in-law, Violet and Barry Coleman of Vidalia, Angie and Brad Franklin of Metter; a brother and sister-in-law, Elbert and Betty McNair of Twin City; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane Ellen and Euell Durden of Twin City; six grandchildren, Marlie, Matt, Katie, Macie, Jennifer and Barry; four great grandchildren, Hunter, Whitley, Sidney and Jase.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, at Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Sam Bowen and Elder Craig Lanier officiating. Burial will be in the Rosemary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 6-8 PM, at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be William Donaldson, Wilton McGowan, Mike McGowan, John Lewis, Billy McNair and Jeff Durden.
