Dateline: Metter Agnes Walsh Collins, 96, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Cedar Plantation. The Candler County native was the daughter of Hughey and Annie Pennington Walsh. She was salutatorian of her Metter High School graduating class. In the 1930's, she received a two year degree in education and in 1955, she received a B.S. Degree from Georgia Teachers College. She taught in Candler County, Savannah and retired in 1974 in Tattnall County. Mrs. Collins was a charter member and officer of the Candler County Retired Teachers Association. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross and American Legion Auxillary. She was a member of the Metter First Baptist Church and formerly of the Cobbtown Baptist Church where she was very active. A nurturing mother always and Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she loved reading, gardening and sewing. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carroll Collins; two infant daughters; and three siblings, Gladys Davis, John H. Walsh and J.P. Walsh. Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Jerry Lott of Metter; three grandchildren, Angela Carlson, Johnnie Lott and David (Laura) Lott; two great grandchildren, Anniebelle Carlson and Rosalyn Lott and one soon-to-be. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:30 PM, at the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 5:30-7:30 PM at the funeral home.
